Our use of Damascus Steel means every McQuaide watch case is unique.

The screw-down is engraved with our iconic 'M' logo, while the exhibition caseback is made of engraved Damascus Steel, it is more than a window: it's a connection to the intricate craftsmanship at the heart of each watch.

More beautiful and impressive in person

I have just received delivery of the green dial C1 Evergreen watch on the green strap, that I ordered from your website on Monday. The watch looks even more beautiful and impressive in person, the Damascus steel is amazing and gives the watch a titanium look with a twist from afar. I went to the watch collectors club

Out of the dozens of watches on display, McQuades really stood out for me, I ordered one the next day. I already own a Panerai Submersible Carbotech, Omega Speedmaster and a Tag formula 1 but my McQuade Q1B is definitely my new favourite and is in my opinion amazing value for money. Great watches!

I received my McQuaide C1 with the green dial in May this year. It is a fantastic watch, it looks great, is very accurate (about +2 seconds per day), wears very comfortably on my 7" wrist and the damascus steel makes every one unique! Rob McQuaide is a great chap, friendly and trustworthy, I've met him twice now and he's always the same. I look forward to seeing his next watch design!

Do you use genuine Damascus Steel?

Yes, McQuaide is proud to be the only UK watch brand dedicated to Damascus Steel. This is forged, not laser engraved not printed. You can learn about the forging process in this blog here.

What is Damascus Steel?

Damascus Steel is a unique metal known for its distinctive undulating patterns, exceptional durability, and historical
significance. It dates back over 2,000 years, originally used for forging some of the sharpest and strongest swords in history.

It's created by forging two alloys together,  one with a higher nickel content than the
other, then etching the steel in an acid called ferric chloride. This corrodes
the higher-nickel alloy at a different rate, revealing the distinctive undulating pattern.

What steels are used in McQuaide Damascus Steel?

The Damascus Steel used in McQuaide watches comprises 316L and 304L stainless steels.

Will the Damascus Steel pattern rust or fade over time?

No — the pattern is an inherent part of the steel itself, not a surface coating. It will remain visible for the lifetime of the watch.

Our Damascus Steel is forged from two stainless steels, so rusting isn't a concern. Our founder, Rob McQuaide wears the original prototype daily, and it's been through open water swimming, coasteering, skiing and rock climbing to prove its durability.
